Our Commitment to Accessibility
Blue Valley Junk is committed to ensuring that our website and digital services are accessible to all users, including individuals with disabilities. We believe that every person should be able to navigate, understand, and interact with our platform effectively, regardless of ability or the assistive technology they use.
We continually work to improve the accessibility of our platform and strive to provide a positive experience for all of our users. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we are dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the inclusiveness of our services.
Conformance Status
Blue Valley Junk aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), provide a wide range of recommendations for making web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, and neurological disabilities.
While we strive to meet Level AA conformance across the entire platform, we acknowledge that some areas may currently fall short of full compliance. We are actively working to identify and resolve any remaining accessibility barriers.
Measures Taken
Blue Valley Junk has taken the following measures to ensure the accessibility of our platform:
- Semantic HTML: We use proper HTML5 semantic elements such as headings, landmarks, lists, and form labels to ensure content is structured in a meaningful way for assistive technologies.
- Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements on our platform, including buttons, links, forms, menus, and modals, are fully navigable using a keyboard alone. Focus indicators are visible to help users track their position on the page.
- Screen Reader Compatibility: Our pages are designed to work with popular screen readers, including NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver. We use ARIA attributes where necessary to provide additional context and improve the screen reader experience.
- Color Contrast: We maintain sufficient color contrast ratios between text and backgrounds throughout our platform, meeting or exceeding WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text).
- Alternative Text: All meaningful images on our platform include descriptive alternative text (alt attributes) to convey their content and purpose to users who cannot see them. Decorative images are properly marked to be ignored by assistive technologies.
- Form Labels and Instructions: All form fields include clear, associated labels and instructions. Error messages are descriptive and provide guidance on how to correct input errors. Required fields are clearly identified.
- Responsive Design: Our platform is designed to be fully responsive and functional across a wide range of devices, screen sizes, and orientations. Content reflows properly at up to 400% zoom without loss of information or functionality.
- Consistent Navigation: Navigation elements are consistent across pages, and the layout follows predictable patterns to help users orient themselves within the platform.
- Text Resizing: All text on the platform can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality, allowing users with low vision to read content comfortably.
Known Limitations
While we work diligently to ensure accessibility across our platform, we acknowledge the following known limitations:
- Third-Party Content: Some content provided by third-party services integrated into our platform (such as payment processing forms, map widgets, and embedded media) may not be fully accessible. We encourage third-party providers to improve their accessibility and choose accessible alternatives when possible.
- User-Uploaded Content: Photos and images uploaded by our users (such as job listing photos and profile images) may not always include descriptive alternative text. We encourage users to provide descriptions when uploading content.
- Legacy Content: Some older content on the platform may not yet meet current accessibility standards. We are working to update and remediate this content on an ongoing basis.
- Dynamic Content: Some dynamically loaded content, such as real-time notifications and live updates, may not always be announced by screen readers in a timely manner. We are working to improve our use of ARIA live regions to address this.

Blue Valley Junk assesses the accessibility of our platform through the following methods:
- Automated Testing: We use automated accessibility testing tools to scan our platform for common accessibility issues, including missing alt text, insufficient color contrast, missing form labels, and improper heading structure.

- User Feedback: We collect and review accessibility feedback from our users to identify real-world barriers and prioritize improvements based on user impact.
